Mitigation of the effects of COVID-19 crisis in coastal Kenya

Monday 8 March 2021

Partnering with A Rocha Kenya, this Global Challenges project in Watamu on the Kenyan coast worked to help mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 crisis on local communities.

In an area already experiencing economic insecurity and with no social security, the Coronavirus pandemic has meant the loss of all tourism, caused enormous job loss, and seen an increase in pressure on the already fragile marine environment.

Funded by the Scottish Funding Council, the project focussed on protecting the marine environment and improving the social welfare of communities for whom COVID-19 has been extremely challenging.
